Her parents are David Loethen, co-owner of the wholesale amusement company AQI, and Diana Loethen, an employee of the software company ECI Solutions. Moreover, Kyle and Chad Loethen, her two elder brothers, own My Event LA catering company in Los Angeles. She is close to her parents and has a strong bond with them. 

Carissa Culiner received her education at St. Joseph Cathedral School in Jefferson City. She also went to Helias Catholic High School, where she graduated. She attended Columbia College but left after a year to relocate to Los Angeles. 

In Los Angeles, she enrolled in Santa Monica Community College. On the other hand, she missed her family and returned to Jefferson City before the project ended. She eventually received admission to the University of Missouri, where she graduated with a B.A. in communications in May 2008.
