He was a first-team All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) selection and an All-American for three consecutive seasons (2002, 2003, 2004)—twice as an NCAA consensus first-team honoured. In addition to receiving first-team selections from the vast majority of All-America selector associations in 2002 and 2004. 

Following Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker, he is only the second player in Bulldogs record to receive first-team All-American honours in three seasons.

He made his hallmark play during the second game of the 2002 season. He caught a throw from South Carolina passer Corey Jenkins in the end zone and caught the ball before it touched the ground; he received credit with a 0-yard surveillance return for a touchdown. He played the Bengals’ first game in his second NFL season in 2006. On September 17, 2006, he suffered a fractured sixth cervical vertebrae on a first-quarter play on running back Reuben Droughns in a game over in-state rival Cleveland Browns.

He had no paralysis but was carried off the pitch on a stretcher and forced to wear a halo brace for three months after surgery to fuse two vertebrae. His injury considered to be career-threatening. However, on January 7, 2007, ESPN stated that he could restart his career if the recovery procedure proceeded as planned. 

On July 11, 2007, it was revealed that David Pollack would not participate during the 2007 season due to his ongoing restoration.

Marvin Lewis, the Bengals’ head coach, revealed on April 22, 2008, that David had “not completely comfortable where he [was] medically” and would retire.

Career after football
